A Thank You to my Fortune Cookie

Do not rush through life. Pause and enjoy it.

April 2, 2019,

Sophomore year has been a whirlwind. You have managed to balance a social life, a full class load, being involved in several organizations, working a thirty hour work week (Aye, you payed every bill and never had to ask for money from the parents), and living alone. You did it, but you did not exactly enjoy it.

You enjoyed each aspect separately, but you did not enjoy the fast pace lifestyle you were having to live. You did not enjoy only having thirty minute breaks during the day and never having a day off. You did not enjoy having to eat sandwiches in the car and change clothes in random public restrooms. The days flew by and before you knew it, it was almost over.

But, that all changed today. Today, you enjoyed life. Today, you were weird and you DID NOT care who was watching (Yes, I invited two strangers into my house to witness this.) Today, you took in each moment. (Who knew fortune cookies could give you the exact advice you needed?)

You embarrassed yourself, but you had fun. You wore a bikini over your clothes and wore a pillowcase as a mermaid tail. You screamed, "HEY, I want to be mermaid" at the top of your lungs with your two best friends. You used your yoga ball as a volleyball in your VERY tiny house, but you had fun

You took time to sit back and watch your friends laugh. You took time to take in each moment and you enjoyed being able to be weird with your friends. You took time and that is what matters

Yes, it is easy for you to get lost in the everyday routine of going. Yes, it is easy for you to loose track of the days because you are constantly on the go. BUT NO, it is not okay. It is not okay for you to not have time to enjoy life. Be proactive not busy. There IS a difference. Take time to plan it all out. Learn to make time for yourself.

So, promise me one thing. Promise me you will never forget to stop and breath. Promise me you will always give yourself time to be weird. Promise me you will make time to have dance sessions in your living room at midnight, dress up parties with your best friends, and karaoke in the car. Promise me you will never forget to enjoy life. Promise me you will always be you.
